Today, the search for effective mechanisms to protect fundamental human rights in times of war is more important than ever. Particular attention must be given to safeguarding women’s rights amid russia’s ongoing military aggression against Ukraine. This issue is currently being actively addressed through the joint efforts of the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the NGO «Women’s Tribune», and, in particular, Ms. Nataliia Onishchenko, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.
As part of efforts to develop a shared vision with European partners on protecting women’s fundamental rights during wartime, Ms. Onishchenko participated in the international forum «International Women’s Leadership Forum & Awards: Power. Voice. Legacy», held in the Kyiv–Brussels format. The event resulted in a number of practical proposals aimed at improving approaches to women’s rights protection mechanisms at the national, European (regional), and international levels, while also advancing the concept of peacebuilding.
Following the forum, a set of expert recommendations was submitted to Members of the Parliament of Ukraine and international partners for further consideration.
